MAILBOX POLICY

WHEREAS, the Board of Roscommon County Road Commissioners has had problems with mailboxes in the right of way, and

WHEREAS, a policy adopted the 7th day of April, 1982, states that the Road Commission will not repair or replace mailboxes, and

WHEREAS, the Road Commission has in the past, as a courtesy to the public, repaired and/or replaced mailboxes, and

WHEREAS, the current Board of County Road Commissioners would like to accept responsibility for mailboxes damaged during road maintenance and construction operations, provided said mailboxes were installed the proper distance off of the roadway,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that upon verification by the Road Foreman, that the mailbox was directly hit by Road Commission equipment, said Foreman shall take appropriate action, whether by repair or replacement, to provide a suitable receptacle for mail delivery,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Roscommon County Road Commission will not be responsible for maintaining the area of the right of way around or near the mailboxes.
